Description
This black and white marine photograph was taken of the ferry Snowdrop painted in 'dazzle' colours in celebration of the visit of the Cunard liners Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary and Queen Victoria. Sir Peter Blakes design entitled Everybody Razzle Dazzle will cover the Mersey Ferry for the next two years, making this the first of the Dazzle Ship commissions to be a working vessel.
The original dazzle ships were painted in a camouflage scheme extensively during World War I and to a lesser extent in World War II. The dazzle technique was employed, not in order to conceal the ship, but rather to make it difficult for the enemy to estimate its type, size, speed and direction of travel.
I created this black and white photograph to emulate the original designs and have kept the colours of Sir Peter Blakes design which are reflected in the water .
